About Brett Vitols

Disclaimer: Despite search engine results, I have no experience in IT or tech.CRUISE SHIP CONSTRUCTIONSince the end of 2014 I have been working exclusively on cruise ship newbuild construction. Involvement in all aspects from start to finish including guest facing design, cost negotiation, value engineering, change orders, delivery, and post-delivery activities. Responsibilities center on coordination, communication, and administration between Operating Departments, PMO Team, Site Team, Shipyard, Vendors, and Subcontractors. My most interesting project has been the development and installation of the first roller coaster at sea onboard MARDI GRAS. From the first review of vendors to installation and commissioning onboard, the project continually challenged our innovation and thinking skills on how to bring a complex shoreside feature onto a cruise ship. DESIGN, PLAN, BID, CONTRACT, TRANSPORT, EXECUTEPrior to my newbuilding construction experience I spent eight years (2005 – 2013) involved in all phases of planning and execution for large-scale projects and project management, moving concepts off the drawing boards to final start-up and delivery in operational vessels. Responsibilities have ranged from detailed inspections and acceptance of individual projects, to the overall authority for planning and execution of a $55M complete cruise ship revitalization.LEADERSHIP, TEAM BUILDING, PEOPLE MANAGEMENTMaking large projects happen within a major corporation requires extensive teamwork and cooperation. The projects I have run pulled together management teams of 40-50 people to plan and prepare for final execution by over 1,200 contractors and technical specialists. I have worked effectively with teams drawn from different departments, companies, nationalities, countries, and cultures. Always one of the challenges, but also one of the rewards, I have really enjoyed the experience to meet and work with people internationally.GLOBAL EXPERIENCE, GLOBAL INTERESTI have been fortunate to find opportunities that let me work globally and given me significant exposure to working cultures and practices around the world. I have worked in shipyards in Singapore, Germany, Finland, Spain, France, The Bahamas, and Italy. I have also spent time working in Mexico, Panama, Brazil, Portugal, UK, St. Maarten, and lived briefly in Hong Kong.WHAT’S NEXT?Opportunities utilizing my experience to take on new challenges are always worth talking about.(But not if they are in IT).e-mail: v•••••@bellsouth.net
