ABOUT BRETT HANCOCK
I am the son of Maureen and Steve Hancock. I am of Metis ancestry, with ties to the Saulteaux First Nation, on my mother’s side and of Roma ancestry on my father’s side. As a student, athlete, coach, and educator, I have spent 40 years as a stakeholder within Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools and I can honestly say that it feels like home to me. Leading learning has allowed me to travel the globe and support students, staff, and families in many different countries. As a formal leader in NLPS, I have been an actively engaged in improving student learning for our priority populations. I will always help support each student’s unique needs, advocating for the continuous improvement of trauma informed practice, and fostering a culture of reconciliation. I look forward to learning from and working with our Indigenous Education Council to create learning that supports the well-being of the self, the family, the community, the land, the spirits, and ancestors.
