About Bret Nelson
Dr. Nelson is Professor and Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is also the Chief of the Emergency Ultrasound Division. In his role as a clinician-educator, he directs his academic efforts towards improving patient care through educational innovation. He has been invited around the world to speak on a variety of topics and has helped clinicians from multiple disciplines train to provide the best possible care for their patients.He authored the Manual of Emergency and Critical Care Ultrasound, Emergency Medicine Oral Board Review Illustrated, the Acute Care Casebook, and the Atlas of Handheld Ultrasound. He created the educational website, as well as a YouTube channel of medical lectures. He has published dozens of peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and other scholarly works. He chaired the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine Emergency and Critical Care community of practice, Mount Sinai Hospital’s Point of Care Ultrasound Committee, and was on the Board of Directors for several international ultrasound organizations. Harvard Medical School, Mount Sinai, and several national societies have granted him awards for teaching, and he was named Attending of the Year by the Mount Sinai Emergency Medicine residents. He is a Master Educator level member of the Mount Sinai Institute for Medical Education.In addition to his academic and clinical work, Dr. Nelson has served as a medical consultant and on advisory boards for dozens of healthcare and investment companies. He has performed medical expert review on a wide variety of case types, and has been a medical consultant for novels and screenplays.
