ABOUT BRET SHILLINGSTAD

I have 8.5 years of experience as a practicing General Surgeon, during which time I also co-owned and co-managed a multispecialty group. Since 2004 I have been employed at Epic working in the field of Clinical Informatics. My role entailed clinical optimization, physician engagement, software demonstrations, assisting in clinical software development, research and reporting, clinical alerts, voice recognition, pre-go-live audits, and post-live visits. I have also written a book on physician optimization and give many talks to clinicians, project teams, and hospital leadership regarding Electronic Health Records. I have implementation experience, most extensively in the areas of CPOE, specialty configuration of the EHR, and Clinical Documentation. My current role focuses on EHR Optimization, Natural Language Processing and Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, Chronic Care Management, and Population Health. I also serve as a guest lecturer in the University of Miami HealthCare Sciences Graduate Department and have given lectures on Healthcare IT and Population Health.
