ABOUT BRENT MONSEUR
My training as a public health practitioner, laboratory scientist, and a clinician uniquely prepares me with three different perspectives to empower reproductive autonomy whether individuals want to contracept or conceive.Family Planning on a Population Level As a public health graduate, I focused my education in two areas: maternal & child health and population health. My coursework provided a context to consider the obstacles women, in particular, face in order to maintain control of their reproductive health. I also developed the skills for basic demographic analyses to study population composition and changes in order to examine patterns and synthesize data for the improvement of public health. Furthermore, I was introduced to the issues and programmatic strategies utilized in the development, management, and organization of family planning programs.Applications of Reproductive Biology I also had hands-on laboratory experience in the field of reproductive biology as a research assistant. In our work, we blended basic science with public health in an effort to apply our findings from the molecular level to individual patients and the population-at-large. This background and training in molecular reproduction provides an excellent foundation for the understanding and development of new contraceptive and assisted reproductive technologies.Medical Training & the Patient During my medical education, I channeled my passion into curricular reform to ensure the dissemination of factual material regarding abortion and contraceptives. These grassroots efforts propelled me into a position on the board of directors of an international nonprofit dedicated to improving reproductive health education in medical schools. Now, as a clinician, I work serve a nonprofit committed to helping individuals from all backgrounds create their families.
