ABOUT BRENT WESTROP

Brent Westrop is currently the Executive Director (ED) of the Downtown Denver Expeditionary School (DDES), a K-5 DPS public charter school in Denver Public Schools (DPS) that is a credentialed EL Education elementary school. DDES seeks to richly implement the core principles, practices, and curriculum of EL Education to offer a diverse, caring and collaborative learning environment while utilizing the city of Denver as its campus. After spending close to 10 years practicing corporate law at top firms across North America, while volunteering in education on the side, Brent entered the education field in 2013. He worked as a special education teacher and the special education department chair at Hill Campus of Arts & Sciences, a top performing middle school in DPS. At Hill, he served on the school\'s Collaborative School Committee, its School Leadership Team and coached its co-ed cross-country team. At the time, he also served on the Bargaining Team of the Denver Classroom Teachers Association. In 2016-17, he completed the Ritchie Program for School Leaders, a collaboration between DPS and the University of Denver, which allowed him to obtain his Principal’s license while serving as a school leader at Gust Elementary School, an ECE-5 serving over 700 students in Southwest Denver. Brent continued his work at Gust, first serving as an Assistant Principal, and then as Principal Resident before joining DDES as ED in July 2021.
