ABOUT BRENDAN RORRISON

My name is Brendan Rorrison. Starting my career with a solid academic background in Computing Science (1st Class BsC Hons) and Mobile Web Engineering (MSc Distinction), I have spent the last seven years building my career at the intersection of technical innovation and tax compliance. Specifically, my main focus is supporting businesses of all sizes to navigate the HMRC R&D Tax Relief scheme in its previous, current, and upcoming forms. As an industry that seems in a steady state of flux and change can bring challenges to those making claims, I focus on being a trustworthy consulting partner in understanding the technical development work which often includes successful R&D activity; to best help firms looking to make use of the scheme as a result of their undertaken projects.Outside of direct consulting, I also have varied levels of experience in product ownership, strategy, PMO and Project Management, giving me a practical grasp of the operational challenges companies face - which is significantly useful for drilling beyond these into the meaningful information required for an R&D claim. It can often be mistaken that these types of operational challenges meet the remit for claiming but this is rarely the case at a surface level. Being able to look beyond these and focus specifically on the development effort involved in a project is crucial in making a successful claim which is where my strengths lie as a consultant. This dual perspective, acting as both a technical consultant and a product leader in previous roles, has allowed me to offer advice that is commercially aware and technically sound to focus on the exact points of reference for a successful claim. Whether I am assessing a complex software project for eligibility or defending a claim position, my aim is always to provide clear, honest guidance that supports sustainable growth. Feel free to reach out if you would like a quick informal discussion about your current R&D claim situation or if you\'re yet to consider looking towards the scheme and want to know any information about the technical side of the legislation. I\'m always keen for a chat!
