ABOUT BRENDAN GOOLEY

I am a litigator who focuses on defending high-stakes cases. I represent defendants in all aspects of potential and actual litigation, from pre-suit demands, settlement negotiations, investigation and defense of cases, through trial and appeal. I work closely with an array of companies and institutions, including many colleges and universities, independent schools, healthcare providers, and businesses of all sizes, who I advise and counsel on an array of matters, including education and employment issues.I counsel and defend schools, particularly colleges and universities and independent schools, on a wide range of issues they face, including governance, student discipline, and student injuries. My work with schools includes everything from developing policies and best practices to prevent issues from arising, working with schools to respond to issues when they surface, and defending cases up through trial and on appeal when they are subjected to suit. I regularly counsel schools regarding compliance with state and federal issues, including FERPA, Title IX, the ADA, the Rehabilitation Act, and other privacy and non-discrimination laws.I also advise employers of all shapes and sizes on the many issues they face, with a particular focus on employment discrimination claims. Among other things, I work with employers to develop and bolster appropriate employment policies, help employers resolve employment disputes when they arise, and defend employers in agency proceedings, court, and arbitration when employees file claims. I regularly counsel and defend employers regarding prospective or filed CHRO matters and in state and federal court, including claims under Title VII, the ADA, and Connecticut law, including CFEPA claims.More generally, I have a wide-ranging litigation practice that includes everything from helping creditors protect their rights to defending medical professionals accused of malpractice. I utilize experience I received clerking to represent litigants in a similarly broad array of appeals.
