About Brenda Mainwaring
The Iowa West Foundation strives for communities where families love to live and businesses thrive. We are dedicated to outcomes that promote a positive cycle of growth and prosperity. Our mission is to support communities where residents experience Belonging, Financial Stability, Opportunity, and Well Being. It\'s my job to energize my team by understanding and supporting their strengths, providing opportunities and coaching for growth, and engaging in collaborative problem-solver. My daily work is informed by decades of corporate and philanthropic experience that includes private foundation grantmaking, public-private partnerships, and relationship-building across a broad swath of geography and spectrum of interests. Through creative funding partnerships with communities and not-for-profit organizations across the Midwest and South, I\'ve had the privilege to support projects that have transformed neighborhoods and communities. Before coming home to the Iowa West Foundation, I spent 23 remarkable years with Union Pacific Railroad. Of the many highlights in my career, my favorites are negotiating and managing UP’s role as supplier to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games; developing the Union Pacific Railroad Museum in Council Bluffs and Kenefick Park at Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha; and leading economic development and community and legislative engagement across Iowa, Nebraska and 11 states from Louisiana to California. On the volunteer side of the table, I\'ve held leadership positions with the Council Bluffs Planning Commission, Pottawattamie Conservation Board and Foundation, Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, Greater Houston Women\'s Chamber of Commerce, Greater Houston Partnership, Texas Business Leadership Council, Texas A&M’s Transportation Institute and the Texas DOT Freight Advisory Committee.
