Cancer research has come a long way. Along with the innovations in technology. There is no reason why only 1-5% of our cancer patients participate in a clinical trial. We must find better ways to be efficient at the clinical site level so we can offer our patients the opportunity to participate in a potentially curative and/or better quality of life clinical trial treatment option at initial point of contact. As a trained clinical trial oncology nurse and seasoned cancer research operations administrator for academic and community sites, I have always tried to empower our researchers to find the efficiency and balance as they work towards finding the cure for cancer. As a caregiver for my dad who passed away from lung cancer the age of 51, I realized that at the time of his diagnosis, clinical trial was not even mentioned. This prompted me to eventually shift my nursing career to oncology research. After 20 years of frontline oncology program work, I learned and understood what drives research scientists, physician investigators, research staff, cancer center initiatives and the needs of our patients. TrialNAV was set up to help bridge the gap between the research industry, clinical coordinating sites and the patients. We hope to provide the best level of expertise in merging technology and cancer research so all patients will have the opportunity to participate in clinical trials.
