About Brenda Carter

I work on enterprise and solution architecture across Microsoft\'s cloud platforms and services, from Microsoft 365 to Azure. I currently work on Zero Trust security, architecture, and deployment. Recent focus areas include security for AI, Zero Trust for Azure, Microsoft 365 Zero Trust deployment, and security and access management for Microsoft 365 and other SaaS services, including protection for identities, devices, and files. I partnered with Microsoft’s Civic Technology Services team to produce security guidance for political campaigns and nonprofit organizations. I led development of foundation cloud architecture guidance for core IT disciplines, including security, identity, networking, storage, mobility, and hybrid integration. Before working with cloud services, I developed architecture guidance for SharePoint Server solutions including logical architecture, physical topologies, and architectures that span WAN environments. I developed the model approach to illustrating and describing architecture concepts and many customers used the Visio illustrations as a basis for their architecture planning. I presented architecture concepts at SharePoint Conferences, Microsoft Ignite 2016 and 2017, and internal Microsoft field training conferences. Before Office, I worked in the Windows Management division. Customers I have personally worked with include HP, United Airlines, Teck Mining, Bank of China, Lenovo, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, City of London School for Girls, Prudential, and others. I have interviewed and hosted design sessions for many others, including most branches of the US military, the UN, multi-national banks, oil companies, large universities, city and state governments, large manufacturing companies, global construction companies, and large healthcare institutions.
