About Bree Barton

Creative and collaborative writer with 20 years of experience. I\'m the author of the Heart of Thorns feminist fantasy trilogy (KT/HarperCollins) and the award-winning children\'s novel ZIA ERASES THE WORLD (Viking/PRH), currently being adapted for film. My books have been published in 10 countries and 6 languages, and I\'m lucky to have readers all over the globe. I’ve also had op-eds and essays in the Washington Post, Slate, LA Times, USA Today, and Zócalo; you\'ll find my weirdo short stories in The Iowa Review, McSweeney\'s, and Roxane Gay\'s PANK.I\'ve ghostwritten 30+ books published by HarperCollins, PRH, Simon & Schuster, Knopf, St. Martin\'s, Hyperion, et al, including multiple national and international bestsellers. I see myself as a seasoned partner on the publishing path, providing support to authors at all stages of the writing process. I’ve crafted 60+ book plans, been a book coach, worked as a developmental editor, and—in keeping with the theme—once played a ghost in a haunted house. As a working wordsmith for two decades, my book-authoring skills have spilled over into content creation to help build out a book\'s platform. Though content strategy looks different for every author, it often comprises web copy, newsletters, social media, blog posts, videos, and more. In a world hungry for good content, it’s all grist for the mill.

   My middle grade debut, ZIA ERASES THE WORLD, is an indie bestseller and Kirkus Book of the Week featured on NPR\'s \"Off the Page.\" Winner of the NYRA and Notable Children’s Books in the English Language awards, ZIA was published in three languages and blurbed by three Newbery Award winners. With Zia in tow, I speak at schools, libraries, and conferences around the world about the intersection of storytelling and mental health.
