About Brant Simmons
Hi! My name is Brant. I am a sophomore at Davidson College double majoring in Educational Studies (with a Disability Studies specialization) and Gender and Sexuality Studies (Histories/Genealogies Track).I am deeply passionate about research, civic engagement, advocacy, public policy, and storytelling. My specific interest areas are wide-ranging and include: family and community engagement in schools; inclusive higher/postsecondary education for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities; the application of LGBTQ+ and disability studies to education and human development and family science research; K–12 education policy; historical narratives and their public imagination; and health, employment, and housing equity.After Davidson, I currently aspire to pursue a PhD in Education or a related social science field. I am intrigued by the sociological, political, cultural, historical, and developmental dynamics shaping schooling and other public institutions, and I believe in the transformative potential of employing methodologies like community-based participatory research and mixed-method inquiry to drive systemic change within our communities.
