My research is primarily based in using Electrochemical Atomic Force Microscopy (EC-AFM) to characterise battery electrode processes during operation. This includes examining the formation of solid electrolye interphase (SEI) in Li-ion batteries as well as dissolution and deposition of sulfur in Li-S and Zn batteries. Understanding these processes in more detail and at the micro- and nano-scale can inform further research regarding the electrode composition in addition to the electrolyte formulation.EC-AFM is the primary tool used to complete my PhD. I have also experience using optical microscopy, scanning electron micropscopy, X-ray diffraction as well as battery cyclers (Maccor and Biologic). Collaborations have been both domestic and international, including with University of Birmingam, University of New South Wales (Australia) and Unviersity of Calgary (Canada).I have completed 3 years of post graduate teaching assistant work in the chemical engineering department, working in the undergraduate labs.
