   As a Senior Engineering Manager, I am responsible for Underwriting Risk Identification & Management, Insurance Policy Management, External Partner-Quoting API integrations and an internal shared service (Home Property).Underwriting (UW) Risk - Given that the company needed to be profitable, it is critical to lower its loss ratio- Aligned the business & product stakeholders to create a roadmap with the above goals as a north star- Achieved a 22% reduction in expected loss ratio putting the company on the path to profitability- Architected a risk management system which hedges Hippo’s exposure to concentrated catastrophic risks in a geography thereby protecting Hippo against severe weather events (causing massive claim losses)- Created a system to dynamically identify risky applications based on the company’s risk appetite- Built a Risk Assessment Tool to improve the quality and efficiency of reviewing risks by saving 12 hrs/week/underwriter.Data cost savings - In order to be profitable, Hippo needed to lower its 3rd party data expenses- Formed strong partnerships across all four business unit engineering & product leaders to create & adopt a shared service to manage home/property data which is central to their business operations- Built Quoting APIs for external partners to integrate with Hippo- 30% data vendor spend reduced- Reduced 99p api latency from 20+s to 4 seconds with the long pole being data vendor latency.Organizational efficiency - Hippo went from a startup to mid sized public company creating a need for engineering leaders and an organization that is nimble and an efficient execution machine- Played a pivotal role in scaling the engineering teams for the Insurance Business Unit- Grew Senior Engineers to Staff Engineers & Team Leads, fostering a culture of trust, autonomy & up leveling engineers- Mentored senior and staff engineers to navigate having difficult conversations and provide candid feedback to junior engineers.
