In 2008, the Washington Legislature created the Sex Offender Policy Board (SOPB). The Legislature\'s intent was to promote a coordinated and integrated response to sex offender management and create an entity to respond to issues that arise, such as integrating state and federal laws, in a way that enhances the state\'s interest in protecting the community with an emphasis on public safety.The Board is assigned a wide variety of duties that range form examining individual cases to setting performance measures for the entire system statewide. In addition, the Board will be a repository for research on best practices in sex offender management, response systems and prevention.In 2020 I was elected Chair of the SOPB as we work on a request from the Legislature to make recommendations regarding the release to the community of persons held in DSHS custody on McNeill Island.In 2022 and on 2024 I was reelected unanimously by the Board to continue as Chair.
