I am excited to embark on my journey as an Trainee Quantity Surveyor at Helix, where I am beginning to immerse myself in the dynamic world of construction. Although I am in the early stages of my career, I am eager to contribute and grow within this role. My responsibilities and learning objectives include:Cost Estimation: Gaining hands-on experience in preparing detailed cost estimates and budgets, learning to interpret architectural plans and specs.Tendering and Procurement: Assisting with the preparation of tender documents and evaluating subcontractor quotes as I develop a deeper understanding of the procurement process.Cost Control: Supporting cost tracking efforts and learning to manage orders and variations, aiming to maintain financial control throughout the project lifecycle.Contract Writing: Learning the intricacies of contract administration and contributing to ensuring compliance with terms and resolving any emerging issues.Site Duties: As a full-time site-based QS, I will monitor construction progress, ensure work meets plans and specifications, and uphold quality standards.Reporting: Utilising insights from site, I assist in preparing detailed financial reports that accurately reflect the project’s current status. This involves tracking costs, internal/external forecasting, and ensuring effective project management through comprehensive financial documentation.Collaboration: Working closely with project managers, the technical team, the client, and my fellow surveyors to foster effective communication and coordination.At this early stage in my career, I am committed to developing my skills and knowledge to achieve excellence in quantity surveying. I am enthusiastic about the opportunities ahead and dedicated to contributing to the success of Helix’s projects as I advance in this role.
