About Bradford Larsen
I\'m a strong generalist with 15 years of security-relevant industry experience.I\'ve been a Principal ML Engineer the past 4 years at Praetorian, building AI-assisted hacking tools used by security engineers. This work has included some model training, but lots more work on dataset curation, inference-time optimization (often getting 10-100x speedups), and deployment of ML-powered systems (a sadly underserved area).Working directly in the AI space and using AI-powered tools regularly has reinforced in me a pragmatic view of the field: Modern deep learning _does_ excel amazingly at some applications, especially classification tasks. But when you use it generatively, you quickly run into reliability, performance, security, and ethical hazards that are difficult to control.Aside from working in the modern AI space, I\'m a security subject matter expert, knowledgable in areas including static program analysis, symbolic execution, abstract interpretation, compiler and interpreter development, fuzzing and property-based testing, and appsec review.Out of grad school, I worked on binary static analysis for a several years. Afterwards, I used static analysis tools in anger to find memory errors and logic bugs in a huge C++ codebase. I\'ve written a bunch of fuzzers (for software you know) and have read and reviewed a lot of code.I\'ve shipped big commercial software in Python, C++, C, and Rust, and smaller commercial projects in Haskell, Go, R, C#, JavaScript, and Scala. I\'m not afraid of new tech stacks.
