About Brad Macy
Mr. Bradford Macy is a 30-year veteran in the field of hospice nursing and leadership. He received the 2013 National Award for Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse of the Year through HPCC for his work in the field. Over the past 15 years, he has shared his knowledge of hospice and palliative care issues, presenting nationally and internationally on clinical and positive leadership best practices. He currently serves as the President of the San Francisco Chapter of HPNA, where he continues to lead, educate, and inspire others.During these challenging times, Mr. Macy believes successful agencies will prioritize both patient-centric care and employee well-being. By fostering a culture that prioritizes passion, trust, respect, and accountability, agencies will reduce staff turnover, improve employee retention and recruitment, and benefit the organization\'s goals and reputation. Additionally, successful agencies will adopt best practice technologies that improve patient-centric care while decreasing the burden of care on caregivers and clinicians. As a veteran hospice nurse, Mr. Macy invented the Macy Catheter, allowing rapid symptom control in non-oral patients. The technology improves patient outcomes and decreases nursing and caregiver burden and operational costs, achieving the triple aim of healthcare. The catheter has been adopted at a majority of the best hospices in the country. Mr. Macy is currently engaged in providing workshops to help individuals and agencies manifest a lifestyle and internal culture of mindfulness and mutual self-care. These workshops address the post-traumatic stress faced by healthcare providers during the COVID-19 pandemic and the increased stress of life in the second decade of the 21st century. In pursuit of further excellence, Brad completed a master’s degree program in Palliative Care with a specific focus on Leadership at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
