About Brad Kolls
Bradley Jason Kolls, MD, PhD, MMCi has a long association with DCRI, and was appointed associate professor in the School of Medicine’s Department of Neurology on July 1, 2016.Kolls’ research is focused on improving physicians’ ability to monitor brain function and the impact of therapy on patients in critical care settings. He is developing new approaches to patient monitoring to help integrate physiologic monitoring with brain activity recorded by EEGs (electroencephalograms).He is also interested in the central nervous system\'s response to injury and in developing new therapies for patients with head injuries. In addition, as part of his work in clinical informatics, he studies technology applications for clinical data capture in the ICU setting and for processing clinical data streams in real time. Kolls received his PhD and MD from the University of California at Irvine and an MMCi (Master of Management in Clinical Informatics) from the Duke Fuqua School of Business. Beginning in 2001, he was a medical intern, a neurology resident, and a fellow in neurology at the Duke School of Medicine. Since 2016, Kolls has been a Clinical Informatics Global Trials Lead within DCRI’s Neurosciences Medicine group. He is also the founding Medical Director of Critical Care Monitoring and Teleneurology, the Duke Telestroke Network, and the Virtual Neurocritical Care Consult service. In addition, he holds the position of Vice Chair, Informatics and Teleneurology, Department of Neurology.Kolls’ work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Neuroscience, Clinical Cardiology, Annals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology, and Epilepsia. He has also published or contributed to several books in his fields.
