ABOUT DOM BOUAVICHITH
I am a labor organizer with GEO 3550 (representing graduate workers at the University of Michigan), where I support union members and leaders as they fight for a just and equitable working and living conditions—through collective bargaining agreements, direct action, and community engagement. Previously, I was a doctoral student in linguistics at U-M Ann Arbor (and a GEO member myself!). Within linguistics, my research interests were in speech perception, sociophonetics, and processes of sociolinguistic expectation. I am a graduate of New York University, where I studied Linguistics and French as an undergraduate and completed my MA in the Institute of French Studies. My experience in higher education—including positions in academic admin, pedagogy development, classroom instruction, academic service, and hands-on research—informs my approach to organizing within the university setting.
