About Boris Portman
As Ukrainian refugees, Boris Portman and his family started with only $300 and a dream to do bigger things when they emigrated to Kansas City. Boris was fortunate to have grown up curious and passionate in solving difficult problems by constantly improving, be it as a champion on the chess board or how to impact positive change and genuine smiles for families across continents. In his spare time, Boris enjoys salsa dancing, tennis, fitness, travel, connecting with his son, and kaizen.He is a seasoned software leader, entrepreneur, and investor who has over 20 years of experience in creating and scaling innovative software ventures. He is the founder and CEO of Salsa Ventures, LLC, investing in high-tech startups and real estate, and BetterEngineer, a helping high-growth technology companies build their own distributed software development teams with the best and the brightest product-focused passionate engineers in the world.Boris is also a mentor at Techstars, the #1 startup accelerator in the world, and an alumni advisory board member at Carnegie Mellon University\'s Master of Software Engineering (MSE) Professional Programs. He holds a master\'s degree in software engineering and business, and a bachelor\'s degree in computer science, math, and business from CMU. He is a certified ScrumMaster (CSM) and a certified SEI Personal Software Process (PSP) practitioner. He is passionate about software engineering talent and making a difference in the world.
