ABOUT BORI ARROBO

With a decade of experience as the Director of Sustainability at Fort McKay First Nation, I specialize in environmental, regulatory, and Rights-based Indigenous consultation, primarily focused on the assessment of oil sands projects in the Fort McKay Traditional Territory, situated within the Northeastern Alberta, Athabasca Oil Sands region. My role entails multifaceted responsibilities, encompassing leadership in technical, regulatory, and Indigenous consultation negotiations with project proponents, government entities, and regulatory agencies. In my capacity as a director, I take the lead in guiding and implementing policies, strategies, and fostering long-term relationships across diverse stakeholders and disciplines. This extends to Rights-based Indigenous Consultation, Government Relations at the federal, provincial, and local levels, and the pursuit of community benefits. In addition, I play a pivotal role in planning and spearheading the overall team strategy, which includes the development of on and off-reserve initiatives related to environmental, cultural, conservation, and sustainability objectives. Furthermore, I represent Fort McKay First Nation in multi-stakeholder groups involving varied government bodies, industry stakeholders, and Indigenous communities. My expertise lies in seamlessly integrating Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) and Traditional Land Use (TLU) into sustainability initiatives. This unique approach guides me to strike a harmonious balance between environmental protection, industrial development, and the long-term sustainability and well-being of the Fort McKay community. This collaborative effort is achieved through close interaction with Fort McKay’s leadership, including the CEO and Chief and Council.
