About Paul Borgmeier
I lead R&D and engineering teams building regulated medical devices, primarily Class II and Class IIb products where design controls, V&V, FDA 510(k), and EU MDR requirements must hold up in real-world use and audit environments. My focus is clear decisions, disciplined execution, and practical risk management that translates into reliable performance and commercial success.I connect engineering tradeoffs to business outcomes such as margin, cost of delay, portfolio focus, and time to market. I have led global teams, managed multimillion-dollar budgets, and partnered closely with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure products scale effectively. My core background is MedTech, particularly surgical and energy-based systems, with deep clinician engagement and global field exposure. I currently lead design engineering for Black Diamond’s life-safety climbing and mountain products. It is a different industry with the same expectations for accountability, reliability, and engineering rigor.I enjoy building both products and people. As a former engineering professor, I bring a coaching mindset and develop leaders who can own complex problems end to end.I am an inventor on 30+ U.S. patents and a Johnson and Johnson Leadership Award recipient. I selectively provide strategic advisory support in energy-based surgical systems, while remaining focused on senior R&D leadership roles building platforms and teams that scale.
