Effective persuasive writing puts your readers in a different emotional or intellectual state of mind than they were in when they began reading.If it doesn’t, you\'ve wasted their time. And possibly your client\'s money.A court motion, of course, is persuasive. But so is a letter to a client. There’s the inherent persuasive element when you convince your client of a point, but the quality of the writing itself also persuades your client that you are credible, thorough, and trustworthy. Even something as simple as an attorney’s official biography on a firm’s website is persuasive: while it’s just a set of facts, it should persuade the reader that the attorney is an expert and the right person to hire. It gives the client a sense of comfort. To show attorneys how to write persuasively, Ben Opipari offers interactive and engaging writing seminars as well as individual coaching. Drawing on fifteen years of teaching experience on the university and corporate levels (including the last five as in-house writing instructor at Howrey), his seminars cover the entire writing process, using examples from different genres to illustrate what effective, persuasive writing looks like.
