ABOUT BONITA C JOHNSON
Bonita C. Johnson is a nonprofit CEO, Senior Physical Scientist, Community Psychology Practitioner, and Social Justice Advocate. She has over 30 years of experience in program and resource management, policy development and implementation, establishing diverse community-focused engagement efforts, collaborative partnerships, and devising innovative and precedent-setting approaches to address environmental, economic, and social issues. Bonita has established 58 academic-community partnership projects in EPA Regions 4, 6, and 7. One community was selected for an unprecedented EPA EJ Collaborative Problem-Solving Grant, a $199,790 Brownfields Job Training Grant, and a Brownfields Assessment Grant. Bonita also served as a Water Division Environmental Coordinator, and as a White House Environmental Interagency Council officer that worked collaboratively with members from federal agencies to promote and implement innovative and comprehensive solutions to address environmental issues and to foster a coordinated approach to delivering federal support and technical assistance to improve local community sustainability.She currently leads the Enchanted Closet, Inc, a 100% volunteer-run 501c(3) nonprofit with the mission of physically, mentally, and emotionally outfitting metropolitan Atlanta girls from low-income families through programs that prepare them for social and professional milestones. With her passionate leadership, the organization has met the needs of over nearly girls, ages 12-19 years old, and has saved families over collectively through the annual Prom Dress Giveaway and GIRL$ Programs. Bonita created the GIRL$ Program, a life readiness and skills development program to aid in enhancing the self-awareness, self-esteem, and self-sufficiency of girls. Each year, girls from over 30 schools, foster care and group homes are empowered to overcome obstacles and reach higher heights. The program has helped to reduce the number of girls at risk for low academic performance, abuse, human trafficking, pregnancy, teen violence, and poor health.
