About Luis Marquez
Luis is a mechanical engineer with over 7 years of experience in medical technologies, with 4 of them being in product development. He has worked on projects ranging from neonatal care and large autonomous diagnostics devices to shape memory polymers/alloys for implantables and aerosols for drug delivery. With a primary focus on early-stage R&D work, Luis drives design and development strategy with strong first principles and data-backed decisions.
Experience
Mechanical Engineer Ii Product Design and Engineering Formally Ximedica
Jan 2021 — Present · Providence, RI, US
Started at Ximedica, now part of Veranex. Continuously applying my mechanical engineering, fluid, and thermal sciences knowledge to biomedical engineering problems. Frequently help others with computational modeling of various systems.Select projects • Early-stage qPCR concepto Worked in interdisciplinary team, with main co-ownership of thermal cycling subsystem. Performed simulations and bench top testing to create best in class thermal cycler at the time (2021).• Neonatal device for jaundiceo Took a gen 1 product and made it smaller without losing efficacy to increase market share. Lead thermal modeling and testing to ensure product’s patient accessible surfaces were within spec.• Large electromechanical diagnostics deviceo Part of the core team (12 engineers) to create a multiplexing platform capable of running up to 300 samples in 8 hours while maintaining a small footprint in the lab, the latter being critical to capture a gap in the market.• Vacuum pad for blood collectiono Was brought in to help with root cause analysis after failed clinical trials. Leveraged CM & S to better understand system performance while working with client team to uncover more user and patient needs. Made data-driven design changes to product, leading to passing clinicals.• Endoscopic retrieval deviceo Analyzed current functionality and developed testing procedures as the design was finalized for Design Validation (DV) testing, including creating drawings for test fixtures to be used• Catheter Balloon Deviceso Analyzed and V&V tested catheter devices, ranging from testing TAVR balloons to in silico modeling of balloons used for urology
