ABOUT BO HOPPIN
Bo Hoppin currently serves as the Executive Director for the Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership, an organization dedicated to the integration of science education, applied research, and leadership development. Bo was previously the Executive Director for the Friends of Young Achievers and as the Experiential Education Coordinator for Young Achievers Science and Math Pilot School. Located in Mattapan Massachusetts, the school\'s mission is to provide a high quality K-8 public school experience for urban youth in science, math and social justice. In the fall of 2015, Antioch University New England recognized Bo with its Annual Horace Mann Spirit of Service Award for Alumni. The award highlighted his current work serving Young Achievers students and lifelong efforts to make learning meaningful through real world experiences. Upon graduating from Antioch University New England, Bo worked with the faculty to conceptualize and found the Rachel Marshall Outdoor Learning Laboratory in Keene, New Hampshire and the CO-SEED project, which reached across New England. Both of these innovative education programs engaged kids in study of their local community and environment in a way that supported local and state curriculum standards. These programs received recognition by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education with its Grand Gold Award for Excellence in “University and Local School Partnerships”, by the New Hampshire Governor’s Office as an \"Outstanding Service-Learning Program\" and by the New England Association for Environmental Education\'s \"Maria Pirie Environmental Program Award\" for excellence in education programming. Specialties: Meeting facilitation for productivity and efficiency, strategic planning, public speaking, project management, place-based and environmental education curriculum development, planning innovative curriculum initiatives in collaboration with public school teachers.
