I built and scaled a national background screening company for nearly 30 years. Before that, I was a licensed private investigator handling workplace investigations. Protecting employers and employees has always been the focus. Along the way, I discovered something the industry preferred to ignore. Employment data was being quietly routed into third-party systems and accessed under forgotten permission. Employees had no idea. Employers often did not either. I raised the issue publicly, including cooperating with an NBC News investigation. When I exited my company in 2022 in an eight-figure deal, I negotiated one carve-out. I wanted the right to build a new model that puts employers and employees first. One where employers keep control of their data and employees see who accesses it and why. I used my own capital to build MyEmployment. It works. Employers stay the source of truth. Employees receive real-time visibility and control. Verifiers get faster, compliant results at a fair flat rate. No aggregation risk. No buried permission. Just transparency and control. My experience includes leading over a thousand workplace investigations, overseeing millions of background and verification requests, and advising organizations across HR, risk, and compliance. Today, I speak and write about the future of employment data, digital privacy, and ethical AI.
