About Bobby Simmons
Bobby Simmons - Percussionist and Vocals Bobby has played all over the world, with greats such as the late-great Marvin Gaye, Ron Carter, D. J. Rogers, Kenny Burrell, Les Paul, and Leroy vinegar. Bobby Studied Music at Garfield High School Seattle, where Quincy Jones and Jimi Hendix went! The University of Washington in the Ethnomusicology Dept there under Joe Brazil and Dumisani Maraire. Also has a dance scholarship to UW, as well as A.A. from Cornish School of fine Arts in music. Bobby has played with The San Diego Symphony, and summer Pops for 14 years, and Your Song, Your Story, and has done some consulting for them. http://yoursongyourstory.org/videos/bobby-demonstrating-congas/#.VWTYClJ1aLG Bobby also has his own group The Bobby Simmons Group, as well as being part of other bands he heads up. Oudeilia Jazz Group, the DEEP Joint Band, Lanuza Jazz Group. Bobby also performs with The Martin Luther King JR Community Choir San Diego. MLKCCSD is a non-profit charitable organization. The Choir\'s purpose is to raise funds for educational grants through a series of concerts. Proceeds are awarded to high school seniors in the SD area who are college-bound aspiring Fine Arts majors. Bobby also plays percussion with The UCSD Gospel Choir, which is a choir made up of over 800 or more students. Bobby has now been elected to become a board member for Grossmont Community Concert Association. Live on Stage San Diego…. Bobby has done Theater Productions: like “And Still I Rise.” He has performed in CCT’s production of “Traditions of Christmas” “I love to play and wish the music would never stop!
