ABOUT ROBERT BALCER

My specialty is leading technical and field teams to optimize production operations for mature, conventional / unconventional assets across the Eagle Ford Shale, Williston Basin (Bakken Formation), Rockies (Powder River Basin), Appalachian Basin (Marcellus Shale), and Mid-Continent (Anadarko Basin).Over the past 18+ years of my career, I have updated production facilities, optimized producing assets, developed new recompletion opportunities, adjusted artificial lift (AL) designs, and stewarded LOE / facility capital budgets for SM Energy, Fidelity Exploration & Production, and Cabot Oil & Gas. In my current role, I was appointed to launch SM Enery\'s new Operations Technology Team based on my operational knowledge, ability to manage projects / people at a detailed level, and expertise in bridging the gap between South Texas Production and IT groups.Some of my recent accomplishments in this role include: Enhanced ESP and Failure Detection (33 wells tested with ~25 MBOE uplift at zero cost). Optimized Gas Lift Injection (8.5 MMcfd compression reduction across 60 wells and ~20 MBOE uplift). Oversaw a successful ALP Pump Checker replacement ($200k+/year software license reduction). My previous roles with SM Energy are as follows:Production Engineering Manager / Technical Expert – Eagle Ford Shale (7/2018 to 9/2021)Rockies Regional Operations Manager – Bakken & Powder River Basin (1/2018 to 7/2018)Production Engineering Manager – Bakken & Powder River Basin (9/2014 to 1/2018)In each of these roles, I stepped up to take on leadership duties amidst regional changes, driving operations efforts for a joint venture and capital projects that improved well performance, lowered costs, and developed new infrastructure. Most importantly, I am a servant leader who motivates cross-functional engineering and field teams through mentorship, routine check-ins, and in-depth training.
