ABOUT BOB SORGER

I’ve been in the industry since the early ‘80’s. From my early days as the best damn P.A. in the commercial production biz, to working with a company that was producer, director & me on music videos, corporate videos & documentaries. I was mentored there by a great director, for whom I A.D.’d on set. He taught me the craft of editing and made me his post-production supervisor. In 1988, I began as an ENG editor for CFTO News and was promoted to director within 4 months. It was an amazing 4 year run, and adrenaline proved to be a delicious drug, but I wanted to be more creative and follow a path I had more passion for than news. I started directing Comedy shows & Kids shows in the 90’s. The first episode of CBC’s Comics I did, I co-wrote with star Jeremy Hotz. We were nominated for a Gemini for Comedy Writing alongside Mike MacDonald, Air Farce, This Hour and The Kids In The Hall. More episodes of Comics, standup specials and a number of shows for YTV followed. I was the go-to guy in comedy in town for a good stretch and did numerous specials, series & pilots for The Comedy Network. As a freelancer, I continued to get shifts doing news and sports shows and directed and edited some more corporate videos. As a director, I dabbled in a few genres of TV – Game Shows, Talk Shows, Information Shows and Reality Shows. In I had the tremendous opportunity to direct the first ever Canadian Comedy Awards and in 2001 won a Canadian Comedy Award for my efforts. After that, I unfortunately wasted a lot of life on failed projects while still working regularly at CTV. I have taken an Apple certified Final Cut Pro course and have found a few corporate clients on my own to keep me busy. With Final Cut now basically obsolete I\'m honing my Adobe Premier skills. I\'ve been teaching studio production at Seneca College since January 2017 and really enjoy sharing my wisdom with the next generation of industry professionals.
