ABOUT BOB SCHAFER

I’m a neuroscientist, entrepreneur, and CEO working to build digital health products that combine scientific rigor with real-world scale. My career has followed a consistent goal: using strong science to create technologies that can improve brain and cognitive health outside the lab and at meaningful scale. I earned a PhD in Neuroscience at Stanford, completed postdoctoral research at MIT, founded a Y Combinator-backed health technology startup, and now lead Lumos Labs, the company behind Lumosity. What excites me most is the opportunity to bring together strengths that are too often treated as separate. Clinical development brings rigor, validation, and the ability to create trusted health interventions. Direct-to-consumer models bring scale, rich real-world behavioral data, direct relationships with users, fast product iteration, and deep expertise in building experiences that engage and retain people over time. I believe the future of digital health will come from combining these approaches rather than choosing between them. The best products will be scientifically grounded, clinically credible, engaging enough for real life, and built to learn from use at scale. At Lumosity, that has meant building on a consumer foundation of more than 100 million users while also advancing assessment, validation, and FDA-cleared digital therapeutics. More broadly, I’m interested in innovative technology, validation, and science that can shape the next generation of digital health.
