About Bo Dowswell
Bo Dowswell has been in the steel industry since 1985—the first nine years as a detailer. He is principal of ARC International, an engineering firm specializing in design and research solutions to complex problems in steel structures. Recently, Bo worked in the Engineering and Research Department at AISC, where he was responsible for technical aspects of Manuals, Design Guides and the Engineering Journal, in addition to his involvement on various technical committees. He received a Ph.D. in structural engineering for his research on gusset plates, and is an adjunct professor at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he teaches steel-related courses and has been involved in several research projects. He is a registered professional engineer and has published several journal articles on steel connection design and beam stability. Bo is a member of the AISC Committee on Manuals and the AISC Committee on Industrial Buildings and Nonbuilding Structures.

ARC International was formed to provide research, engineering and continuing education to the structural steel industry. Working for fabricators, erectors and engineering firms, we have provided engineering services for steel connections, industrial structures, and plate structures.The research focus is on practical projects resulting in design guidance for engineers; however, project-specific research is also available. Linear and nonlinear finite element software is available, as well as experimental testing facilities.The seminars developed by ARC International are designed to provide in-depth technical information that can be applied to practical design-office problems.
