Winner of 2016 Visionary Award from the California Black Chamber of Commerce, Community Activist of Year award in 2018 from San Francisco NAACP and Chairman\'s Award from the Oakland African-American Chamber of Commerce in 2021.Central Brooklyn EDC was named Community Partner of the Year April 2024 at the Rockefeller Center Big Apple Gala of LISC NY, after scoring a $1.3 million grant from Robinhood Foundation and topping off its 10-story B\'ville Hub headquarters.As founder of the Journal of Black National Black Business Month® since 2004, he wrote Our10Plan State of Black Business, 14th edition. The newest edition is ReUNION: State of Black Business, 22d edition.In 1998, he designed the first comprehensive analysis of African-American cutting edge accomplishment in Silicon Ceiling: Equal Opportunity and High Technology, presenting the 50 Most Important African-Americans in Technology.For 25 years, his book imprint ASPIRE SAN FRANCISCO gives authentic witness to the role of Africans in global history in titles like Our Roots Run Deep: the Black Experience in California, Vols. 1-4 and Cakewalk: an historical novel on the unsung creators of jazz. ReUNION: Education-Arts-Heritage is a daily instructional video delivery channel for culturally-responsive, core common standards based curriculum which has a history of wide acceptance throughout the naton over the past 30 years. The African-American Freedom Trail, the first in the West, is the platform for an initiative to reduce chronic absenteeism and raise reading achievement among African-American students.A National Achievement Scholar among those students who desegregated North Carolina schools in the 1960s. He graduated cum laude in 3 1/2 years from Howard University School of Communication. As a graduate research associate at UNC-Chapel Hill, he conducted an oral history of the black press in five Southeastern states and completed the Minority Science Writers Seminar, Stanford School Redesign Network and Stanford Professional Publishing Course.
