About Cynthia Bland
When you ask a kid what they want to be when they grow up, you never hear “statistician”. We\'ve really got to change that!My liberal arts parents couldn’t quite believe this was my chosen path. My first statistics professor started with the practical side of the profession in that “Everyone needs a statistician!” As my coursework deepened and I saw the diverse application of statistics, I knew this was my home. I am happy to have a career where statisticians were not only needed, but valued. After 22 years in statistics, I’m proud to contribute to complex surveys and help my profession adapt. My colleagues and clients know I’m someone who can solve problems, clearly communicate intricate issues, and advance decisions through data. How exactly? I’m an experienced survey statistician with passions for transportation statistics, biostatistics, survey methodology, and statistical programming. It’s a great day for me when I get to focus on survey design and sampling. I also enjoy weighting, analysis, project management (certified), and programming (SAS, SUDAAN, Stata). And while it seems I’m all about the numbers, I also have heart. Leading teams, mentoring, professional service, board leadership, peer-review, lecturing, each require a balance of quantitative with compassion. I help nonprofit organizations by using data and decision frameworks to achieve their mission in the face of ambiguity. I coach and empower my team to learn and grow in their technical and interpersonal skills. Are you pushing change in your profession or even changing yourself? I’d love to learn more.My StrengthFinders Top 5: Input, Relator, Communication, Responsibility, Self-Assurance.Certifications: Project Management; Carver Policy Governance
