ABOUT BLAINE PENNY

20+ years of professional and leadership experience with a proven track record as a strategic, results-focused visionary leader in the Health, Technology, and Engineering sectors with expertise in digital health technologies, community engagement, product management, engineering, and fund development. I have a passion for building and leading teams, community movements, products/projects, and organizations for sustainable success. I have consistently demonstrated my leadership ability in businesses ranging from small start-ups and non-profits to corporate conglomerates through founding, growing, leading, and inspiring profitable world-class teams. I have extensive experience managing large teams and portfolios ($200MM+) for global technology and engineering firms. As founding President and CEO of MitoCanada Foundation, I have helped fundraise over $3MM to advance cutting-edge diagnostics, fund research, and increase awareness and support for individuals and families affected by mitochondrial disease. I am committed to helping accelerate access to rare disease diagnostics, improved care, and therapies as a Director with the Canadian Organization for Rare Disorders and co-chairing the working group to develop Canada’s Rare Disease Drug Strategy. As a life-long learner who is curious, loves to be challenged and wanting to make a difference in the world, I seek roles that provide growth opportunities and have a material impact. I have overcome great adversity in my life that provides daily perspective. I am extremely passionate about everything I do and feel a sense of urgency every morning I wake up. I have been formally recognized by the Calgary community with several awards, including the Dave Kelly Live Award, Calgary Top 40 Under 40, a Kickass Canadian, attended the prestigious Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference, 3x Canadian Ultramarathon Champion, and 6x Guinness World Record holder (running for charity). I am very proud of my career and personal accomplishments; however, I am most proud of the role I play as a father, husband, and community builder.
