ABOUT B. K. KISHORE

Bellamkonda K. Kishore, M.D. Ph.D, MBA is Co-Founder, President, CEO and CSO of ePurines, Inc, a startup drug development company in the University of Utah Research Park, Salt Lake City, Utah. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine (Nephrology), University of Utah Health, Salt Lake City, Utah. Prior to launching ePurines, Dr. Kishore was a Principal Investigator in the Department of Veterans Affairs Salt Lake City Health Care System for two decades, where he established an internationally recognized research program with innovation. His distinctions include elected Fellowships of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB), American Society of Nephrology (FASN), American Physiological Society (FAPS), American Heart Association (FAHA), and International Society of Nephrology (FISN); and citations in Marquis Who\'sWho in Medicine and Health Care, and European Biographical Directory. He is Founding Editor-in-Chief of the peer-reviewed Journal of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (JAAPI), Honorary Distinguished Fellow of the Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO), and Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors, Tampa. F. Dr. Kishore\'s research was focused on purinergic signaling, a relatively new area with a vast potential for innovative therapies for chronic and intractable diseases. He is one of the few leading experts in this field globally. The intellectual property Dr. Kishore and his associates developed over the years has very significant impact on diseases of the kidney, liver, heart, lung as well as obesity and insulin resistance, based on common denominators of signaling pathways that operate in these conditions. One approach targets purinergic P2Y receptors (P2Y2 or P2Y12) for the treatment of disorders of water balance, such as acquired nephrogenic diabetes insipidus or water-retaining conditions leading to hyponatremia, as well as obesity and insulin resistance. The second approach aims to treat vasopressin excess states, such as autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of liver, cardio-renal syndrome, high altitude pulmonary hypertension etc. In addition, Dr. Kishore and associates developed an innovative approach to induce production of native erythropoietin in the kidney by the administration of a synthetic peptide for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease. These technologies are protected by 8 granted patents by the USPTO. They address a global patient population of 1.5 billion.
