ABOUT BISHAL DEV SHARMA

As a PhD graduate from Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth, I specialize in the metabolomics of microbes. My research focused on understanding the metabolic bottlenecks and regulatory mechanisms that affect the efficiency and yield of bioethanol production from the thermophilic anaerobe Clostridium thermocellum at industrially relevant substrate levels. Using analytical techniques such as liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, enzyme assays, and plate reader assays, I gained valuable insights into metabolic pathways and cellular processes in microbial fermentations. I have contributed to multiple publications and presentations on this topic and received the Thayer School Dean\'s Service Award in 2023 for my outstanding contributions to the Thayer and Dartmouth communities.In addition to my research, I served as a Guarini Graduate Student Activities Fellow at the Dartmouth Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies from May 2022 to April 2023. In this role, I designed and organized a variety of social events and programs for the diverse graduate student body, including dance nights, hiking trips, canoeing trips, and workshops. I collaborated with other student groups, Guarini fellows, and staff to plan and promote these activities, and served as a guide and mentor to incoming graduate students. Additionally, I supported events like orientation, Graduate Appreciation Week, Mental Health Month, and graduation. This experience helped me develop and showcase my leadership, communication, teamwork, and creativity.
