Eric Henry is CEO and President of TS Designs in Burlington, NC that manufactures the highest quality printed apparel in a domestic, transparent, and trackable supply chain. He’s been in business over 40 years and has seen the apparel industry transition from a primarily domestic industry to today, where over 97% of clothing is produced overseas. Eric Henry is on a mission to radically change the apparel industry for the good of the people and our planet.He became an early adopter of the triple bottom-line business model of “People, Planet, and Profit.” TS Designs was the first company in NC to become a certified Benefit Corporation (B Corp) in 2008, and are the longest standing apparel B Corp, verified to meet higher standards of transparency, accountability, and performance.Under Eric’s leadership the company developed WhereYourClothing.com that shows complete transparency of the shirts\' supply chains. The Cotton of the Carolinas line of t-shirts contains a QR Code that allows you to know where it was during each step of the manufacturing process, including the farmer that grew the cotton! Eric is an innovation leader, pioneering R&D around eco-friendly materials and processes beginning with the development of the proprietary water-based screen printing process, REHANCE™ to the complete Dirt to Shirt™ made-in-the-USA manufacturing supply chains. With a garment dye facility he has developed techniques encompassing reactive and natural dyes with natural fibers such as cotton, hemp, and wool. He has spearheaded multiple white papers addressing challenges in the current apparel industry.Solid State Clothing is the retail brand of TS Designs as a way to bring meticulously crafted, locally grown and made shirts directly consumers. Solid State releases small batches of premium-quality t-shirts and is a platform for experimenting with new materials like natural dyes and creative collaborations with regional artists and makers. Know Your Clothing is a nonprofit intiative created in 2023 as a means to continue the research and development TS Designs has started so the company can focus on its manufacturing efforts. It is a way for the community to contribute and make a difference in helping repair the broken apparel industry.Eric’s latest project is the Piedmont Agrarian Collaborative, a project that brings together a diverse group of small farms committed to regenerative farming practices. It provides communities with fresh, locally-grown fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, and more, fostering sustainability and connection to the land.
