ABOUT BILLY ROSA

Dr. Rosa is an Assistant Attending Behavioral Scientist, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). He is a 2026 Presidential Leadership Scholar, Cambia Health Foundation Sojourns Scholar, and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Harold Amos Scholar. His research broadly focuses on mitigating palliative care inequities for historically marginalized people. Dr. Rosa completed MSK’s Hospice & Palliative Medicine Interdisciplinary Clinical Fellowship and served as Chief Fellow of MSK’s NIH/NCI T32 Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Psychosocial, Palliative, and Community Research in Cancer. He is the editor of five books, has contributed more than 300 academic publications in journals and texts, and presented more than 150 conference keynotes and other presentations. He was lead researcher for the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) Nurses for Health Equity policy report endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and served on the advisory board for the 2024 WISH/WHO report, Suffering for Lack of Palliative Care. He is Co-Chair of the upcoming Lancet Respiratory Medicine Commission on the Integration of Palliative Care in Serious Respiratory illness; a Commissioner for The Lancet Oncology Commission on the Human Crisis in Cancer; collaborator for The Lancet Commission on Cancer and Health Systems; and was a writing committee member for The Lancet Commission on Breast Cancer. Dr. Rosa served on the expert panel for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Palliative Care Guideline Update (2024) and co-authored the update of The Lancet Commission on Global Access to Palliative Care & Pain Relief (Lancet Global Health).Dr. Rosa is Editor Emeritus of Psycho-Oncology and Associate Editor for Journal of Pain & Symptom Management. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Hospice & Palliative Nursing Association, and the New York Academy of Medicine. Dr. Rosa has been recognized with numerous distinctions, including the International Association of Hospice & Palliative Care\'s Individual Recognition Award (high-income country category), the International Council of Nurses\' Kim Mo-Im Policy Innovation & Impact Award, and national or global recognition by several other organizations.
