Manager of Civic Events is responsible for the overall strategic management, direction and staffing for the section and is accountable for development and delivery of programs and services within event management.The Manager leads civic event delivery, special events strategy, support, and funding programs, and HRM’s film program, the municipal role in tourism, and is responsible for policy development, and implementation of HRM corporate policies with sound fiscal and financial management. The Manager supervises, directs, and oversees a team of professional staff and assignments and provides technical assistance and information to staff and the public on a wide variety of issues and complex and sensitive professional assignments. The Manager also acts as liaison between event management for-profit and not-for-profit event organizations, tourism and destination management agencies and elected officials.

As the Event Division Manager in the Halifax Regional Municipality, I oversee 50+ major cultural festivals and events annually, and have lead teams of 100+ staff, vendors and volunteers while driving the growth of our vibrant event industry. From establishing citizen-based committees to securing and building upon annual sponsorships, my work bridges community, creativity, and business.
