Reliance Public Relations, Inc. was founded by Bill and Sue Gay in 1997 in El Centro, California. It serves clients in the Southern California region, primarily in Imperial County. The agency also publishes a quarterly magazine, Imperial Valley Alive! Reliance is a veteran-owned business. Reliance Public Relations has handled public relations for a variety of public and private agencies including the Imperial Valley Community College District, Bear Valley Electric Service, the City of El Centro, and the Salton Sea Authority.It has also helped coordinate successful bond elections, including the $58 million Measure L bond measure passed in 2004 by Imperial Valley College as well as Measure J, an $80 million bond measure for Imperial Valley College in 2010. It 2008, it was part of a team that helped pass Measure D, a sales tax extension for Imperial County transportation infrastructure.Reliance also handles outreach for the investor-owned Western Goldfields (Mesquite) Mine in the Glamis area.In early 2012, Reliance-in partnership with Valley Solutions-provided public relations services for Southwestern Community College in San Diego during an interim period when the college was without a Public Information Officer.Reliance has planned, arranged and conducted strategic planning workshops for major agencies including the County of Imperial, Imperial Valley College and the City of El Centro. Other work for Reliance has included major event promotion, including all California Mid-Winter Fairs and Fiestas since In 1998, Reliance was retained by the Imperial Valley Joint Chambers of Commerce to develop the first Imperial Valley Joint Chambers of Commerce Business Showcase that was held in January, Reliance handled coordination of all annual shows through 2011.

REACH! is the Asian/Pacific Islander Recruitment and Retention Center at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1994, REACH! began with a handful of committed folks, as a program under the Asian Student Union (ASU) at UC Berkeley to target “Asian Pacific American, high school students, especially those who are underrepresented, low-income, and non-college tracked”. Its goals were two-fold: 1) promoting higher education as an attainable goal and 2) empowering students through “building ethnic pride and programs that foster community activism and support APA youth culture”. As REACH! grew organizationally, the vision and purpose of REACH! grew with it. While the mission remained, “the service and empowerment of recent immigrant and urban Asian Pacific Americans living in at-risk life situations,” we added on that “Our goal is to promote higher education as a means to empower ourselves and improve the economic and social conditions facing our communities.” We saw that REACH! had a unique role on campus and in the API community at large, because REACH! was not just going to increase the numbers of underrepresented Asians at Berkeley but REACH! would be a training ground for future educators, activists, and leaders who would address society’s injustices through their life’s work. Thus, we created programs to raise political awareness, build coalitions, develop youth leaders, and build leadership in ourselves. Each year, programs have been refined and recreated by (insanely) dedicated and intelligent coordinators, who look for a better way to do things. However, our single most important legacy is the steady stream of community leaders we have and will produce. REACH! Mission Statement: "Committed to the service, empowerment, and mobilization of immigrant, refugee, and underserved Asian/Pacific Islanders by promoting higher education to empower ourselves and challenge the economic and social inequalities facing our communities" Educate, Empower, Change.
