ABOUT BILL WOOD
I take the ethereal and complex and synthesize it into the actionable, delivering sustained KPI results along the way. My main career goal is to look back and know that I made a positive difference in as many lives as possible. While I\'ve led many successful large-scale and massive organizational transformations and worked on dozens of strategic initiatives involving employees, one of my most profound business experiences involved only five bucks. I was a volunteer in a little village on the coast of Ecuador, building water supplies. A local women’s artisan guild asked to borrow $5 to order supplies for a hammock business. This was amazing –asking to borrow such a small amount! I knew nothing about Yunus, there was no Kiva then, and I didn’t know the first thing about microfinance. Being naturally inquisitive, I had to understand everything. What I ended up actually taking away from that experience was priceless: • The significance of communication - asking the right questions and listening to truly understand what is driving an individual, to connect with them on a personal level, and to build solid, mutually beneficial relationships. • The value of looking at a business’s true fundamentals and value creators – with such small amounts, the women couldn’t afford to have any waste in their value stream! • The importance of teamwork for success. These women worked as a team, and lived (and died) in their small network, working to better themselves and their business as a cohesive unit. While my subsequent experiences have served to hone and deepen my passion and skills in building interpersonal relationships, helping others and providing optimal value for my clients and their needs (something I love about working in healthcare!)- my true business education began with a $5 investment in a small village in Ecuador. Specific Specialties: • operations optimization • strategy deployment • enterprise restructuring • lean healthcare • management consulting • business process improvement • organizational change management • organizational transformation • humor • nonprofit mentoring • teaching • microfinance • social business and entrepreneurship • product development • customer communication management • customer experience optimization • team development •
