About Bianca Beck

Multilingual Student | Aspiring International Lawyer | Human Rights Advocate I am a driven and globally-minded student with a BA and MA from Yale University, where I studied East Asian Studies (BA and MA) and Political Science (BA). With just one semester left, I am on the cusp of an exciting new chapter: law school. My journey has been shaped by a multicultural background—being of both German and Nicaraguan-American heritage—and a childhood spent moving around the world. This unique upbringing ignited my fascination with international relations and law, human rights, and learning languages. Language is my gateway to understanding and fostering cross-cultural connections. Proficient in six languages—English, Spanish, German, Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin Chinese—I am also dedicated to expanding my linguistic horizons by learning Arabic. My language skills have proven invaluable in past work and volunteer experiences: most recently, during a summer internship at Allen & Overy, where I conducted legal research for the investment-treaty arbitration team. My passion for international law does not stop at the office. I have engaged in human rights advocacy through various extracurricular pursuits at Yale. My internship with the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Myanmar following the 2021 coup provided me with invaluable insights into the complexities of international human rights institutions and mechanisms. Additionally, I have contributed to the Yale Law School\'s Lowenstein Human Rights Project as a researcher. As I prepare to embark on my law student journey, my overarching career goal remains clear: to use my linguistic and law experience to facilitate cross-cultural communication and continue advocating for human rights.
