ABOUT ASHOK BHATTARAI

My professional career began in June 2018, when I joined “High Himalaya Hydro – Bavari Construction JV” as a contractor Civil Engineer for “Lower Likhu Hydropower project 28.1 MW” during its mobilization phase. Initially, I was involved in topographical survey and cross-section survey. Then, I was assigned as a site in charge of two working fronts of the headrace tunnel, where I had the responsibility of temporary camp establishment for accommodation, site supervision, planning, and running the working fronts smoothly with proper management of available resources. Controlling the tunnel shape, size, and alignment; verifying the drilling pattern for blasting; verifying the tunnel support works as per design and specifications; and quantity takeoff for billing works were also my responsibilities.Then, I joined “Api Power Company Limited” located at the trade tower, Thapathali, Kathmandu, as an Employer Civil Engineer (Head-office). I was involved in “Upper Chameliya Hydroelectric Project 40MW” during its planning and design phase and performed rate analysis, estimation and preparation of BOQ, preparation of the tender document, and preparation of construction schedule.Then, with the motive to upgrade my technical and contractual knowledge, I joined an ISO 9001:2015 certified hydropower consulting firm “Sanima Hydro & Engineering Pvt. Ltd.” located at Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu, Nepal, as a consultant Civil Engineer. In this company, I was involved in 3 in-house national projects where my primary responsibility was bill verification work following the contractual terms. I was also involved in 3 external national projects. Contract revision, extension, amendments, ensuring contractor\'s cash flow, coordinating with client and site team, site visit for construction progress monitoring and supervision, BOQ preparation and revision, preparation of construction schedule, construction drawing, due diligence study, preparation of various reports, review of reinforcement drawings and so on were other responsibilities of mine.After working for more than four years in the construction industry, I realized it takes good planning, management, and leadership skills, along with technical knowledge, to complete the project successfully in the real world. So, to upgrade my knowledge in the management and planning field, I applied to Conestoga College, Ontario, Canada and am currently pursuing a Construction management course.
