Shaping the five-year vision for Digital Engineering across UK government, with a focus on three questions:1) How do we make the public sector an excellent place to work as an engineer?2) How do we prepare for the impact of AI on teams and people?3) How do we build products that position the UK as a leader in citizen-facing services?Current work includes leading the nationwide rollout of AI coding assistants to developers across 11 departments, building on a trial where users saved an average of 56 minutes per working day. Also working with AWS on operational resilience at sector scale.

ABOUT BHARATH VADHOOLA

I joined HMRC as a Junior Data Scientist nearly a decade ago. One of my first projects, a bankruptcy prediction model, has since helped recover over £300 million in debt through early intervention. At the Home Office, I scaled engineering teams from 4 to 200 people, led major cloud transformations, and helped deliver £18.4 million in annual savings through a FinOps programme. Then I jumped to a team of four.I\'m now a Principal Technologist at DSIT, shaping the five-year vision for Digital Engineering across UK government. The work includes rolling out AI coding assistants to developers across 11 departments and figuring out how to build operational resilience at sector scale.It\'s a different kind of problem. I went from implementing strategy to helping create it. Shaping direction for a whole sector is a different challenge. I\'m enjoying it.Outside work, I climb mountains. Everest Base Camp, Kilimanjaro, currently training for Mera Peak.If you\'re thinking about AI in government, engineering at scale, or making the jump from delivery to strategy, I\'d be happy to talk.
