Maracuya Productions is a bi-cultural documentary production company focusing on stories of inspiration and injustice. We specialize in collaborations with Latino-oriented non-profit, advocacy, and policy organizations to create visually compelling stories. Below are short summaries of our video work:\"Can\'t Hold Me Back\" follows a student as he becomes the first in his family to earn a high school diploma-his ticket out of the struggles of inner-city poverty and violence in Detroit. With a mountain of roadblocks stacked against his educational achievement, Fernando finds support from an unlikely figure: his father-a former gangster who has suffered the costs of his own mistakes.\"DreamTown\" portrays the realities, triumphs and tragedies of three Afro-Ecuadorian players from El Chota Valley in Ecuador. This small valley home to a marginalized Afro community has lived isolated in poverty for hundreds of years, and where seven World Cup Soccer stars were born taking Ecuador to their first World Cup. We follow the journey of three soccer players as they make decisions and sacrifices to become professional athletes and fight to save their families and community.Additional Producer Credits:New American Girls, PBS.org Co-producer/Co-Director, 2013DreamTown, 16 min.
