ABOUT BETTY NORDWIND
Under her dynamic leadership, the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law has evolved into a legal aid powerhouse, serving some of the poorest members and residents of Los Angeles County. Hired in 1987, Betty has overseen the Center’s growth from an office of 4 persons and less than 35 volunteers to a strong community institution of over 20 staff members and 300+ volunteers. Constantly in motion and thinking outside of the box, Nordwind has initiated pioneering legal services programs to meet the needs of a wide variety of vulnerable persons including incarcerated mothers, women veterans, low-income fathers, community college students and domestic violence survivors. “It’s her passion.
