ABOUT BETTY LIN

Technical leader and project manager with over 20 years of experience in the industry. Extensive expertise in diversified operational, consulting, and end-to-end experience in dewatering processes for surface and underground mining operations. Experience covers underground mine backfill concurrently with the design, construction, and operation of tailings dewatering circuits for surface mine waste storage facilities over the full mining life cycle, in a wide range of base and precious metals, iron ore and bauxite operations globally. Committed to building a strong team in Canada and projecting a holistic vision to tailings and all mine and metallurgical waste streams management by finding the smartest and most innovative solutions to de-risk the industry. Continuing to support the Tailings Practice Group as the Technical Director and SME for Dewatering processes, as well as the global technical community lead for Tailings dewatering and transport technologies- Tailings Practice Lead for Canada (Mississauga, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver)- Technical Director in Tailings Processing for the Tailings and Mine Waste Management Group at Hatch.® - Lead the Steering Committee with the client team for the overall tailings management strategy at various sites- Led mine backfill systems projects globally including business development and proposals, project execution and evaluation- Successfully completed multidisciplinary projects ranging from studies, audits, process improvements, and implementation of backfill systems- Project Management: created, monitored, maintained, reported, and closed-out all stand-alone backfill systems projects- Extensive experience on the properties and characteristics of slurry tailings and mine waste, dewatering systems, cycloning, thickening, filtration technologies, tailings and mine waste transport, and paste for underground and surface disposal applications. Industry recognized for innovative applications and approaches- Expertise includes testing set-up, mix design optimization, process scale-up, equipment selection and improvement, project management and project delivery- Globally recognized expert on backfill, presented and chaired at international conferences- Active in various technical societies: Past President of CIM GTA West, and Central District VP for CIM National- Guest lecturer at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering- Mentor engineering students with focus in championing women in the STEM profession.
